Tea Set

Circa 1869 museum-quality four-piece sterling silver tea set identical to a tea and coffee set in the Dallas Museum of Art pictured in Charles Venable's "Silver In America" (see last photo in this listing for a photo of this page 53 which illustrates the coffeepot to the set with trivet from the book, "Silver in America 1840-1940" which is must reading for anyone interested in 19th Century American Silver--the book is the "Bible" for this period of silver).  Mr. Venable attributes the set to  Gale, North & Dominick, New York, NY circa 1869.  Set consists of  an 8 ½ inch high tea pot on footed trvet ( 8 inches by 6 ¾ inches); a 7 inch high lidded sugar bowl; and a 5 ¾ high inch creamer.  Total weight: 68 ozs. Monogrammed G.  Marked 925 Sterling 4.   Original ivories are intact.  Gothic revival finials gothic inspired forms.  Each piece has an undulating,  octagonal shape.  Entire body of each piece has ornate engraving and brightcut work.  !
In near mint condition, with engraving and brightcut work extremely crisp.
