HOLLOWWARE by Garret Eoff

Being offered is a circa 1840 highly exuberant coin silver three piece teaset by the important New York maker  GARRET EOFF (b. 1779-d. 1845)
utilizing the sheaf of wheat motif.  Sheaf of wheat is common on flatware but it is exceedingly rare to find the motif used on hollowware.  The set displays die rolled and applied bands of sheaves of wheat on upper bodies of teapot, covered sugar bowl and creamer.   The hinged lid of the teapot and lid of sugar bowl also feature six (6) extraordinarily fine repoussed and chased sheaves of wheat.  Finials echo the same motif.  Teapot spout is also repoussed and chased in shape of an eagle and/or phoenix like bird.   Teapot stands 10 inches high, covered sugar bowl 9 inches and creamer 7 inches.  Bodies of each piece also feature repousse, vertical bands at lower body and various applied, die rolled borders.  Original ivories are intact.  (Please note that this set is conservatively dated circa 1840, it is probably earlier.) Total weight is 94 tr. ozs.  The set is not monogrammed, nor has it ever been monogrammed. Each piece is struck with double mark, "G.EOFF".
