3pc SET JAMES W. TUFTS BOSTON Wadsworth Atheneum 1885 A fine three (3) piece circa 1885 silverplate tete a tete set by James W. Tufts of Boston, each piece (pot, creamer and sugar bowl with cover) with spectacular engraving in the Japonesque taste. Dimensions of pot: 4 1/2 inches high by 6 inches over handle and spout; creamer 3 inches high by 4 1/8 inches over spout and handle; and sugar bowl 4 inches high by 5 1/2 inches over handles. No monogram. Marked as illustrated in photo. (The set has never been resilverplated--no museum would touch something that has been resilvered!) This set appears on page 185 of Charles Venable's 'Silver in America 1840-1940' and was included in the traveling exhibition in the early 1990's and is in the collection of the Wadsworth Atheneum and other museums.
